Do I need a web site?
With more and more people having access to the Internet, having a well designed web site is a very good way to make your information available to a large audience. If you have a web site you can simply give your web site address out and anyone and avoid costly brochure print runs. People can access your information immediately, giving you the edge over competitors who may still be sending out their information by post. A web site also means that your information can be seen by anybody at anytime, anywhere in the world regardless of time zones and working hours. Utilised correctly a web site can be an extremely powerful marketing tool.

I don't have a lot of money - can I still have a web site?
We specialise in web design for charities and NGOs, and offer them 30% of the normal price. However, if you are a profit making organisation we are always open to negotiation. Affordable web site deisn is possible! Not all web sites have to be huge, multi-page affairs, and if you are short of money we can suggest the best type of site to fit your budget. What if I already have a web site that need changing or maintaining?
We are happy to redesign, or maintain existing web sites.

How do I decide what to put on my web site?
You know your organisation best, but once we know a bit about you we can certainly advise you on what you should include. Please note we do not write content.

Can my web site be easily expanded?
Your site can be as small or large as you wish. It is no problem to add content and design elements - this is one of the advantages of having a web site - nothing is set in stone, and upgrading your site can be done quickly and without disrupting the existing site.

How will my site be kept up to date?
After the site is designed Scared Cat Productions can continue to update your site for an agreed fee. Alternatively, if you have text based pages which need changing often, then we can offer you a Content Management System, whereby you can update certain pages over the Internet.

Can visitors to my site contact me direct?
Yes, this can achieved in numerous ways. You can have your contact details on the site. Your clients will also be able to contact you via email, with different addresses set up for different departments/people within your organisation if needed. It is also possible to have more complex forms on your site for visitors to fill in - the results of which will come directly to you.

I have very limited knowledge of the Internet - can I still have a web site?
You do not need a vast amount of knowledge to have a web site - that is what we are here for. As the project progresses you will find you learn all you need to know. We are always happy to answer any questions our clients have, and can also point you in the right direction for more information should you decide to further your knowledge.

Do you supply custom built e-commerce solutions?
Yes we do. We can also advise on off the shelf ecommerce solutions, depending on your needs.

What is a domain name?
This is the name that goes immediately after the "www" bit of your web site address - for example, this site's domain name is www.scared-cat-productions.co.uk.

How do I choose a domain name?
You should choose something that is directly connected with your organisation, either the organisation's name, or something people will associate with it.

Will you register my domain name?
Yes, we will shop around for the best deal and register any domain names you have decided on. There is no charge for this if we are designing a site for you - we will simply bill the cost of registering back to you with our initial invoice. The amount is usually in the region of £10 per year.

What is hosting?
In order for your web site to be published on the Internet the files have to be placed on a server belonging to a hosting company. There are many different deals out there and after discussion with you we will endeavour to find you the best deal for your needs. There is a small one off admin charge for this - please see our costs page for more information.

Do I need any equipment to have a web site?
No. All design work is done by us, and the web site files themselves are kept on your host's computer. We will always bring a laptop computer to consultations so you can see the work progress.
